# Parcel

Also known as: lot, tax parcel, land parcel

A legally defined unit of land with a unique government-assigned identifier used in property records and permit applications.

A parcel is a discrete unit of land with legally defined boundaries, assigned a unique Assessor's Parcel Number (APN) by the county appraisal district. Parcels are the foundational unit of local property records — every building permit, deed, and tax assessment ties back to a parcel. In Texas, county appraisal district (CAD) databases are public and can be queried by parcel ID to retrieve ownership, square footage, improvement value, and permit history.

## Why it matters for contractors

Matching permits to parcels lets a contractor enrich a lead with owner identity, property details, and adjacent-parcel activity — turning a raw permit pull into a targeted prospect profile.
